I develop content for print, online and museum projects. That means I can write and edit material, commission authors, manage a team, and plan, schedule and budget projects.
I started life as a Cambridge science graduate before gaining over 15 years experience in educational publishing. An expert at textbook development and 'joined-up' publishing (that means actually talking to your sales and marketing colleagues), I've held roles at some of the major names in the industry (Pearson, Macmillan, Hodder Headline and Thomson). And I've worked from Assistant to Director level across a diverse range of markets and lists.
In 2005/6, I spent 14 months working as a volunteer for two different organizations in South Africa. I spent this time developing marketing communications and PR plans, writing newspaper features and doing photography and graphic design. I also returned to one of my first interests (how to effectively communicate science) through a course run jointly by the Universities of Pretoria and Cornell.
On my return to the UK, I gained experience in the Museum sector, with roles at London's Science Museum and the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich. These positions have taught me a lot about crafting messages and outcomes, communicating without words, evaluation strategies and digital learning.
I now work across the publishing, museum and science communication sectors and balance my client work with writing for publication.
